Description:
After the Rochester Pavilion Hotel burned down in 1877, this site sat vacate for nearly 10 years. In 1888, R.O. Smith built this two-story brick hotel, called the Sidney House. In 1895, William Bowman renamed the business the Detroit Hotel, which it remained until it was destroyed by fire on February 22, 1927. This image shows firefighters attempting to put out the blaze.
